Bangladesh Air Force Fighter Jet Crashes in Dhaka: 20 Dead, 171 Injured

A Bangladesh Air Force FT-7 BGI fighter jet crashed today(July 21, 2025) at 1:06 PM shortly after taking off from the Kurmitola Air Base (B.A.F. Base A.K. Khandaker) in Dhaka during a routine training mission. The aircraft reportedly suffered a technical malfunction mid-air, prompting an emergency response.

The tragic accident occurred in the Diabari area of Dhaka, where the aircraft crash-landed on a two-story building of Milestone School and College. According to officials, the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Md. Tawkir Islam, made every effort to steer the aircraft away from densely populated areas. Despite his courageous attempt, the aircraft ultimately lost control and crashed.

Casualties and Injuries:

The crash claimed the lives of 20 people, including the pilot, and left 171 others injured. Victims were swiftly transported to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and several other nearby hospitals using Air Force helicopters and ambulances for urgent medical treatment.

  • Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery: 70 injured, 2 dead
  • Dhaka Medical College Hospital: 3 injured, 1 dead
  • CMH Dhaka: 17 injured, 12 dead
  • Kurmitola General Hospital: 1 injured, 2 dead
  • Lubana General Hospital & Cardiac Center, Uttara: 11 injured, 2 dead
  • Uttara Adhunik Hospital: 60 injured, 1 dead
  • Uttara Crescent Hospital: 1 injured, 0 dead

Total: 171 injured, 20 dead

Emergency Response and Investigation:

In response to the accident, teams from the Bangladesh Army, Air Force, Police, RAB, and Fire Service promptly arrived at the crash site and initiated rescue operations. Authorities have already formed a high-level investigation committee under the Air Force to determine the exact cause of the incident.
